Eragon has barely escaped with his life. During his battle with Murtagh,  on the burning planes,  Murtagh tells Eragon something that shocks Eragon to the very core. Despite his anguish, and sorrow, life goes on, and he must fulfill oaths he has sworn. His first oath was to his cousin Roran, and to help rescue his beloved, Katrina, from the clutches of the evil king, Galabtorix.  Eragon also swore his life to the Varden, so he must do all in his power to help the Varden succeed.
